alice in wired world 1: i-man in wonderland

Like Alice in Wonderland the almost-21st

century webser is headed down a yellow brick

road on his or her way to Wired World. But,

where does the yellow brick road lead? Who is

behind the curtain flipping multimedia levers,

adjusting the sound track, and changing the

contrast? Clicking frantically on his Microsoft

mouse, I-Man often wonders what the future

holds. The feeling usually passes after a few

microseconds, but this time something is

different. This time, I-Man is getting the

willys.

As the Internet inches its way closer and

closer to TV Land, it becomes just another

channel next to NBC, CBS, ABC, and Fox. And as

these two mediums merge, the intellectual

content of the Web begins to crumble. The

Internet begins to resemble a huge wasteland --

just like TV. Oddly, this has attracted lots of

investment. After all, if the Web starts

appealing to Joe Lunchbuckets sitting in front

of the tube, there will be billions to be

made. Nothing attracts interest like gold. The

Internet TV gold rush is on.
