day 91

twitch 3: i-man says, "bull!"

Fig. 3. I-Man says the online game player companies are full of Bull.

I don't know a lot about games, so I asked

I-Man. Our conversation went something like

this.

SpinDoctor: I-Man, I know you have been

connected to video games for over a decade,

now, and you have seen it all. Is the video

game biz about to be rejuvenated by the

Internet?

I-Man: Who did you say your are? Just a minute,

I have 5,000 points racked up and I will miss

the record by 100 points if I stop now.

SpinDoctor: I write a column called Daily Dose

for the SpinDoc zine. This week's article is on

video games.....

I-Man: Wow! Bim-bang-bong! I think I got 'em!

What is a spindoczine?

SpinDoctor: It is a web magazine. You know, the

next wave of publishing.

I-Man: Bunga-lunk, Boom-Bim! 500 more points!

I-Man continued to twitch in front of his

TV. This gave me time to think. What seems to

be happening here is this: video games are a

dying breed, PC sales to the home are

declining, and people have heard about the

Internet, but they don't know what it is. So,

software companies are clamoring to cash in by

re-directing their markets towards the old

video game market. But how can a traditional

PC software maker compete against the $200

Nintendos?

SpinDoctor: Hey, I-Man, do you think the PC biz

will kill the video game biz?

I-Man: Bull!

So much for the oracle. Maybe I could send him

e-mail? Tomorrow, I expose the fallacy of the

new interest in playing video games over the

Internet. And, I'll describe a business model

that makes sense -- stay with me.
